Two days after he clocked up his second silver medal at track cycling's World Cup in Glasgow, Martyn Irvine was yesterday confirmed to have turned professional with the American UnitedHealthcare team. The 27-year-old London Olympian was one of eight signings announced, and joins fellow Irishman Philip Deignan. who arrived last year.
"I'm super excited to race for UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling next year," said Irvine. "I've committed a lot of time to the track in recent years and I'm so happy that this team has given me a chance to show what I'm capable of. "
Irvine appears to be moving to a new level, as evidenced by his career-best silver medals in the scratch race and individual pursuit last Friday and Saturday respectively.
