With 16 goals between them, in just five league matches, Irish women's hockey captain Mary Logue and her international team-mate Jenny Burke are spearheading Hermes's quest to retain their Statoil Leinster Senior A title.

On Saturday they shared their team's goals to extend their 100 per cent winning start to the season, when they beat Genesis 5-1. Mary Logue scored her second hat-trick in five games, to add to Burke's double, with Niamh Keogh replying for the home team. Loreto, who have played an extra game, remain on top, however, after goals from Caitriona O'Kelly and Aoife Pomeroy gave them a 2-0 win away to Glenanne.

Old Alexandra won by the same score-line with both goals coming from Trish Conway, one from a penalty stroke, helping them to victory over Pembroke Wanderers at Serpentine Avenue.

Meanwhile fourth-placed Muckross exacted revenge for last season's league defeat by Trinity, their only one of the campaign, by beating the students 5-0 in Santry. Lorraine Furney sent Railway Union on their way to a win by the same margin when she scored four of her team's five goals against Clontarf in Dardistown. In Ulster, Pegasus continued their stroll towards the title with their seventh consecutive league victory, this time a 4-0 win over Portadown.
