Here is Philip Reid’s reaction piece:

Rory McIlroy: ‘It has been a great week. Missing the trophy, that’s about it’Opens in new window ]

That’s all from me for this evening. See you next Thursday for coverage of the Open in Portrush.

50 feet for Gotterup (-15), a good lag putt but not stone dead. 35 feet for McIlroy (-13) and big cheers from the crowd. Went for it but not particularly close. Makes his par and that’s tied 2nd for Rory. His best performance by far since the Masters and a great way to tune up for the Open at Portrush next week. Par for Gotterup.

Chris Gotterup wins the Scottish Open!

Final round of 66 does it for the 25-year-old American. Well deserved. His second PGA Tour win.

166 yards for Gotterup (-15), knock it on the green and he can think about the trophy. Which he does, sensible shot to the middle of the green.

150 yards for Rory (-13), but he can’t get it up on the slope, well inside Gotterup but not the pressure he would have liked.

Fine drive at the last by Gotterup (-15), long and down the middle. Just what was required. Rory (-13) down the middle, past him, but it looks like Gotterup’s tournament.

Gotterup (-15) with another tester, which he makes. That could be that.

Penge (-13) hit is over the green at 18 after a big bounce when it hit the ground. Nice chip and a 5-footer for par, which he makes. That will be a trip to the Open and a lot of money for finishing in the top 3.

Gotterup (-15) opts for the putter, through the fringe and downhill. It bobbles on him but he does decently. 4-5 feet left for par.

McIlroy (-13) has got 30 feet for birdie. Just to the right. Another par.

190-yard par 3 is the 17th. Gotterup (-15) pushes it to the right, a bit nervy. Up against the collar of the rough. McIlroy (-13) get it pin high a little to the right. Gives himself a chance.

Penge (-13) is in the semi-rough after bouncing out of the heavy stuff on 18.

Key putt then for Rory and takes his time looking at it. Poor contact though, went right early and never on line. Par for McIlroy (-13), big opportunity wasted.

Birdie for Gotterup (-15)! Learns from Rory’s putt, hits it softer and turns into the middle.

Great effort by Penge (-13) from distance, just a few inches short on 17. Fitzpatrick misses his birdie attempt.

Penge (-13) is right over the flag on the par 3 17th, but a long putt back up the green. Fitzpatrick (-12) pitches right at the flag but much closer. Good chance for birdie.

McIlroy (-13) from just off the green with the putter goes 12 foot past the hole. Gotterup’s (-14) chip just goes past the hole but inside Rory’s.

Very good break for Gotterup (-14) got through the dangerous stuff and has a shot. He hits it up the right and not in bad shot in two on the par 5.

Only a wedge from 196 yards with the wind behind on 16th for Rory (-13), he hits it right and was bundling on but hitting the sprinkler head has taken a bit of steam out of it. In good shape just off the green.

Gotterup (-14) goes way right, towards the gorse, with his drive, as McIlroy (-13) hits into the semi-rough. The pressure is on the American now.

Meanwhile, the Englishman Marco Penge has hit a tasty pitch to set up a birdie and get to -14 on 16. He misses though.

Gotterup (-15) with a nasty lie with bark beside him and hits a fantastic pitch in the circumstances to keep it on the green, a lot could have went wrong there. But looking at a bogey here, you’d think.

His par putt misses but a good lag putt from there, but back to -14.

All of a sudden Rory (-13) has a putt to tie the lead... and it’s so close. Great effort from 30 feet, it’s a par and back to one.

Fitzpatrick (-12) from the rough on 16 hits it into more rough on the par 5. Penge (-13) from 220 yards in the rough with a strong wind behind hit it way right into more rough.

Gotterup (-15) is warned by the official for slow play, told he’s on the clock, will that affect him? Looks like it 169 yards and flies the green. Rory (-13) could put the pressure on with a good approach. 162 yards, 20km/h wind into him. Middle of the green up the hill.

Long par 4 into the wind the 15th and McIlroy (-13) hits a great one down the fairway. Gotterup (-15) in the semi rough.

Poor drive by Fitzpatrick (-12) on 16th into the rough.

McIlroy (-13) down the hill then for birdie, sets it out to the left and doesn’t come back, another miss. Five pars to start the front 9, not what was needed in shootout conditions.

Gotterup (-15) misses too, that was a poor putt and gives Rory a lifeline. Was only seven feet up the hill. But still two ahead.

Penge (-13) makes back-to-back birdies to get back into contention.

Another superb approach by Goterrup (-15) on 14, below the hole inside 10 feet, he has been relentless today. McIlroy (-13) gives it his best shot to match him, another good approach too but has to start getting a few of these to have a chance.

Gotterup’s (-15) chip is tasty, plays it up the slope on the left and comes back nicely to four or five feet. He gets his par, that could be important.

McIlroy (-13) up the slope on the scenic 13th with the sea behind, never really threatened the hole. He nearly misses the par from short range, which just sneaks in the corner.

Fitzpatrick (-12) leaves his birdie putt just short and to the left.

Nicolai Hojgaard joins him on -12 with another birdie, on the 16th. Penge also holes to get to -12.

Horrible lie from 171 yards for Gotterup (-15), he’s going for a thump out of it, could go anywhere. Good contact but takes a big kick off the bank. It stops enough though just off the green that he has a fairly easy chip back. He’ll take that.

McIlroy (-13) from 164 yards shapes one into pin high but a little to left, outside chance for birdie.

Advantage Rory (-13) on the 13th, he hits a driving iron to the middle of the fairway. Gotterup’s (-15) drive is to the right.

Penge hits a beauty at the 14th to close with a chance to go -12. Fitzpatrick (-12) isn’t quite as close but a good approach too and a chance for birdie.

McIlroy (-13) to go first.. and he misses. Oh no, that could be costly. That was only about 5 feet.

Gotterup (-15) inside him for birdie.. and he makes it. Two in it now. The 25-year-old may not have much experience in this position compared to his rival, but he’s not showing it so far.

Wonder shot by Gotterup (-14) on the 12th! Hits it to close for birdie at the par 3. From 199 yards, Rory (-13) matches him, right at the pin too. Just past him, but can put the pressure on putting first.

Fitzpatrick (-12) on the 13th leaves himself in three-putt country, at the very front of the green.

Bogey for Fitzpatrick (-12), the tee shot was costly there.

Big putt for McIlroy (-13) to avoid falling two behind... he makes it! Gutsy par from 10 feet. Gotterup takes his time and makes his par (-14).

Just 138 yards left for Gotterup (-14) but it taking a long time to hit it, very slow. It’s a decent shot in the end but 20 feet for birdie.

Fitzpatrick (-13) struggling for par on 12 after pulling his iron left on the par 3. His chip goes too far and tricky par putt coming up.

A superb round of 63 by Justin Rose means he posts the clubhouse lead at -11.

McIlroy (-13) is up against a tree, and has to hit a left-handed poke back to the fairway. Far from ideal. 151 left to the hole and it’s well hit, in the same range as Fitzpatrick was for birdie. Makeable par putt there from inside 10 feet.

Birdie for Fitzpatrick (-13)! Goes eagle-birdie to move within one of the lead. The challengers have put down the gauntlet to Rory (-13), how can he respond? Not great at the 11th, he pushes his drive well right.

Eight iron from 147 yards from Matt Fitzpatrick (-12) is clinked and he has a birdie putt from only seven feet to join the lead. Got hot at the start of the back nine.

McIlroy (-13) hit a fine approach in at the par 5 to set up another birdie chance, his putt just drifts to the left. Good effort, but just a par at the par 5.

Birdie for Gotterup (-14) to take the lead! He holes from 11 feet, three birdies in four holes to take initiative.

With the wind at his sails, Fitzpatrick (-12) nails his drive down the 11th.

Gotterup (-13) is stuck in a bad lie, but lays it up well on the par 5. McIlroy (-13) has 256 yards, driving iron from a downslope in some rough, risky shot. Hits it low into the heavy rough in front of him, but rolls up the fairway well short of the green. Got away with that one big time, but as with Rory, it’s often fortune favours the brave...

Fireworks happening!

Eagle for Fitzpatrick (-12)! He moves to one behind with a big eagle putt from 35 feet at the 10th. Second day in a row he’s eagled the par 5.

Birdie for Hovland (-10) from beside the wall at the 14th, a superb putt from off the green to go to only two back.

Birdie for Penge (-12), he joins Fitzpatrick at just one behind. After a massive drive, his approach went right at the 10th, but got up and down well and held a good putt for birdie.

Defending Open champion Xander Schauffele is showing a bit of form with back-to-back birdies. He’s -4 for the day and -9 for the tournament in tied 7th.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is showing a lot of frustration after another makeable putt for birdie, he’s on -8.

Gotterup’s (-13) drive is low and to the right at the par 5 10th, into some medium lengthed rough. McIlroy (-13) knocks one out there too into the rough, but not too bad.

Hole-in-one alert! Echavarria with an ace at the par 3 6th hole. A new car on the way!

Gotterup (-13) from 47 feet lags it close to the hole. Birdie chance for McIlroy (-13) slips by from 12 feet at the 9th.

Straka takes two from the bunker at 11 and ends up with double bogey. Just shows the danger that lurks on this course.

Gotterup (-13) hit his tee shot a bit too long to the back of the green at the par 3 9th. From 189 yards, McIlroy (-13) hits a superb approach to set up another birdie opportunity.

Justin Rose is up to the group on -10, good form for the two players that battled at the Masters this year ahead of the big one next week.

Good try by Penge (-11) on 9, his birdie putt just misses the hole. A double bogey by Knapp (-8) where his first chip came back to his feet, might have knocked him out of contention.

Birdie for McIlroy! Left to righter sneaks in, superb putt, two big putts in a row after a 20 footer for birdie at the previous hole. Gotterup from 6 or 7 feet up the hill matches Rory and makes it. Both -13 now.

Brilliant wedge shot by Gotterup (-12) at 8 set up another good birdie chance, he is looking like Rory’s main rival at the moment. Rory (-12) from 83 yards doesn’t get the same release but it’s not too bad, 15 feet maybe for birdie. Penge (-11) is on the middle of the green at the par 3 9th.

McIlroy (-12) with the wind at his back hits a massive drive over the bunker at 8 and on the fairway. Here is one of his early highlights:

Gotterup is now tied for the lead on -12 with Rory. Penge hit a 383-yard drive at the eighth but after a mediocre second shot, could only make par.

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open from Renaissance Club. It is going to be an exciting finish in Scotland with Rory McIlroy starting the day tied for the lead, and now is one shot ahead. McIlroy won here two years ago with a stunning birdie after a two-iron into the wind. None of those conditions today though, beautiful sunny weather.

The Scottish Open is a PGA Tour-DP World Tour co-sanctioned event and one of the strongest in the world this year. It is of course a links tune-up before the Open Championship in Portrush next week.

-12 McIlroy (7)

-11 Penge (7), Gotterup (6)

-10 Fitzpatrick (7), Knapp (7), Straka (9)
