CYCLING:ALTHOUGH THE OCI yesterday named the Irish Olympic team for London 2012, the three Irish riders who will compete in the road race are still to be determined. Cycling Ireland (CI) confirmed to The Irish Times yesterday that an ongoing appeal by Matt Brammeier to the OCI against his non-selection by CI is yet to be resolved.

“The hearing is set for July 7th and we are told we should expect an oral decision soon after the meeting,” CI chief executive Geoff Liffey said. “Their decision is final, so the only other potential option would be if something was to go to CAS, but I think that is unlikely given the short time left.”

Last month CI’s selection panel picked Daniel Martin (Garmin Sharp) and Nicolas Roche (Ag2r La Mondiale), along with David McCann (RTS Racing Team). Brammeier was one of those who were unsuccessful under CI’s original criteria, which allocated points based on a combination of results and selector assessment.

Brammeier appealed the result on June 7th. CI’s appeal committee decided his objection had sufficient merit for the selections to be weighed up again. CI’s selectors looked at their choice a second time, but stuck with their original decision. Brammeier appealed to the OCI prior to the national road race championships on June 24th, where he took a record third consecutive title.
