Cork's Tom Kenny has announced his retirement from the inter-county hurling after 10 years on the panel and two All-Ireland winners' medals.

The Grenagh clubman was a midfielder in both those victories, against Kilkenny in 2004 and Galway in 2005, but he was no stranger to the half-back line.

The 32-year-old also featured in this year’s final defeat to Clare after coming off the bench.

“I’m 32 now and I felt it was time to let other lads come through and have their chance. I’m healthy, it’s not because of injury,” Kenny told the Irish Examiner.

“I’ve had a good innings with Cork, it would have been great to go out with a third All-Ireland medal this year, but it wasn’t to be.”

Kenny's departure means Brian Murphy is the sole survivor from Jimmy Barry-Murphy's side that won back-to-back All-Ireland titles in 2004 and 2005.
