Peadar Healy is the new Cork football manager in succession to Brian Cuthbert. The Glengarriff-based Garda, who was appointed at the weekend on a two-year term, was on the sidelines when Cork last won the All-Ireland in 2010.

An All-Ireland minor winner in 1981, Healy was a Cork selector between 2008 and 2013 during Conor Conounihan’s managerial reign.

He coached Dr Croke’s in the Kerry championship this season and previously guided O’Donovan Rossa from Skibbereen.

The Ballyvourney-native beat off challenges from Ronan McCarthy, Ephie Fitzgerald and Ned English following a long, drawn-out process which involved the favourite John Cleary opting out for a second and final time.
