Maurice Fitzgerald is reported to have confirmed that he will not come out of retirement and rejoin the Kerry football panel.
There had been rumours of his impending return for the past three months after county manager Páidi Ó Sé and chairman Sean Walsh had asked the player to reconsider, although Fitzgerald had neither confirmed nor denied the suggestion.
Until this week. When interviewed for a video about football in south Kerry Fitzgerald is reported to have ruled out a comeback.
Speaking on Radio Kerry the video's producer Christy O'Riordan confirmed this. "He told us that he would not be returning to the Kerry set-up in 2003 and that his inter-county career is at an end."
Fitzgerald, who retired in 2001, had a 14-year career during which he won all the major honours in the game, including two All-Irelands and three All Stars.
