The Laois selectors will give Hughie Emerson a late fitness test on Sunday morning before finalising their team to play Kildare.

The influential marksman injured a leg at a training session during the week and the centre forward position has yet to be filled.

Emerson's absence, along with Ian Fitzgerald, could significantly blunt the Laois attack but they are reasonably optimistic that he will recover.

"We are fairly hopeful just now but we have laid on contingency plans in case he is forced to miss the game," Laois official Pat Moore said.
