GAELIC GAMES:THE GAA Director General Páraic Duffy has taken issue with Galway hurling board secretary John Fahey, who yesterday described as "absolutely disgraceful" the decision to stage the All-Ireland under-21 hurling final in Thurles.Fahey also said the CCCC, which turned down a Galway request for a venue change, had been instructed to by GAA officials.

“Páraic Duffy promised us that the CCCC would revisit it, but they never met and yet Páraic Duffy will tell the public, through the media, and they will be gullible enough to see that the CCCC are totally responsible,” said Fahey.

Responding, Duffy said he had given no such assurance. “I met officials from Galway in Athlone last Friday and told them that the CCCC had exclusive authority to make fixtures. The CCCC did meet on Sunday after the hurling final, considered the matter and decided to stand by the original decision.”

Galway officials yesterday confirmed just 240 tickets had been sold in the county for this evening’s decider against Tipp.
