Division Two Previews

Greystones v Ballynahinch

Greystones v Ballynahinch

Playing freely now, Ciaran Fitzgerald's improving young team have survived their mini-crisis and are actually the form team in the division with four successive wins; the returning Cormac Dowling providing an infusion of pace and Eoin Costigan continuing to pile up the points. Ballynahinch showed the effects of a belated win when nearly beating Dungannon in midweek but regardless of the outcome, today could be the inevitable D-day.

Forecast: Greystones.

Wanderers v Sunday's Well

READ SOME MORE

Wanderers are theoretically best-placed of the remaining promotion aspirants in that wins today, at City of Derry next weekend and at a possibly disinterested Dungannon the following weekend would almost certainly see them secure second place. Sunday's Well's run of four successive wins came unstuck at Greystones last week and they've lost four of six on the road but still could be tricky opponents if inclined.

Forecast: Wanderers to win.

City of Derry v Malone

City of Derry are proving stronger opposition at home of late although Malone arrested a slide of four successive defeats with a late win at Dolphin last time out and still, in theory, have a shot at promotion.

Forecast: Malone to win.

Old Crescent v Old Belvedere

Crescent's promotion hopes were extinguished by defeat at DLSP in a tense struggle last week, a result which also put Belvedere out of the equation. Nothing but pride to play for then, and most of Belvedere's best form has been away from Anglesea Road, where they've only lost once.

Forecast: Old Crescent to win.

Old Wesley v Bective Rangers

Win or bust for relegation threatened Wesley against their in-form neighbours, who are playing with a relaxed air of confidence in recording three successive wins. Though they mightn't necessarily enjoy condemning their neighbours to the drop, form suggests that's the probable outcome.

Forecast: Bective Rangers.

Portadown v DLSP

With five wins out of six, Portadown have one of the best home records in the division and their midweek thumping of UCC showed them to be still in competitive mode despite the preceding home defeat to Belvedere. Still, Portadown was the venue for Buccs' division three promotion party two seasons ago. Though tension crept into their play last week, DLSP are a well-drilled side who've lost only once away and have enough matchwinners in McGuinness, Cunningham and Stephens to take them a potentially decisive step into Division One.

Forecast: DLSP to win

Skerries v Dungannon

A better points differential of just six points currently keeps Skerries above the relegation threshold but with Portadown to come, albeit a week after Dolphin complete their programme, a Dungannon side needing another win to secure promotion is not what they would have wanted.

Forecast: Dungannon to win.

Sunday

UCC v Dolphin

The free-falling students may be just what Dolphin would have ordered at this stage of their desperate fight against relegation. Despite a heartbreaking late defeat at home to Malone last week, and pointless away form thus far, with Ballynahinch to come they look best placed to avoid the drop.

Forecast: Dolphin to win.
