CRICKET:A CENTURY from Jeremy Bray helped The Hills claim the Whitney Moore Section A league title with a 84-run victory over Leinster at Milverton yesterday.
His 116 provided the backbone as the home side made 245 for six off their 50 overs after winning the toss and batting. Bray enjoyed plenty of help, sharing century partnerships with Barry Archer (51) and Mike Baumgart (53).
Byron Vermaak made an early breakthrough for the Rathmines side when Patrick Byrne nicked behind to wicket-keeper Ian O'Herlihy for six with the score on 20. It was a false dawn as Bray and Archer got to work, putting on 105 for the second wicket before Archer became the first of George Dockrell's four wickets, with Mark Jones taking the catch.
Bray ploughed on with Baumgart, bringing up his first league century of the season. Dockrell made the breakthrough when Bray was caught by Craig Mallon with the score on 231 in the 48th over. Vermaak held a return catch to dismiss Baumgart, while Dockrell picked up the wickets of Max Sorensen and Michael O'Herlihy to finish with four wickets for 34 off nine overs as Leinster were set 246 for victory.
