Clongowes Wood College will open the defence of the Leinster Schools' Senior Cup against familiar opponents, Terenure College. The teams have met in the last two senior finals and it promises to be a wonderful occasion.

The other outstanding first-round tie in Section B offers a clash of Holy Ghost Schools and near neighbours, Blackrock College and St Michael's College. Indeed the bottom half of the draw is considerably stronger containing Belvedere College and St Mary's College who also have serious aspirations.

In the top half of the draw Castleknock College, Newbridge College and Cistercian College, Roscrea are favoured with the latter two probably disputing the semi-final.

In the Junior Cup, holders Blackrock College have received a bye into the second round where they face St Andrews College and should set up a tantalising clash with Terenure College, assuming that Terenure can edge past St Paul's.
