Aberdeen have made a £350,000 bid to sign Republic of Ireland international Alan Moore from Middlesbrough where the 24-year-old has become increasingly peripheral to Bryan Robson's plans.

The left-sided midfielder featured in just five first-team games at the Riverside club last season and played another five during a loan spell at Barnsley before Christmas.

Moore returned prematurely from Oakwell due to injury and requested a transfer shortly afterwards. However, the arrival of Keith O'Neill at Middlesbrough late in the season will have done little to persuade him that his future lies in the north-east.

Irish Youths midfielder Ger Crossley was on the move again last night after Derby decided against signing him at the end of his trial period. The former Celtic player has now linked up with first division club Grimsby Town where he will discuss a move with manager Alan Buckley over the coming days.

Also hoping to have his immediate future resolved is former Home Farm and Everton winger Padraig Drew. Having turned down an offer from St Patrick's Athletic he is travelling to Dundee United today for a trial after which he will move down to Southampton. Republic of Ireland and Wolves' £6 million-rated striker Robbie Keane faces disciplinary action from the club after being involved in a drink-driving incident.

Keane, (19), was released without charge after questioning but teammate Kevin Muscat has been charged with drinking and driving after being arrested on Monday night.

Wolves' managing director, John Richards, said: "Wolves has its own code of discipline and the matter will be dealt with internally."

National League champions St Patrick's Athletic, meanwhile, will have to start the new season without either Edie Gormley and Stephen McGuinness, both of whom have had suspensions carried over from the last campaign.

McGuinness will miss next weekend's game against Derry City but Gormley will have to sit out the first two league games. Shamrock Rovers are worst affected by the carry over which was confirmed by the National League yesterday with Marc Kenny, Jason Sherlock and transfer listed captain Paul Whelan all ruled out of the new season's kick-off. Whelan is, in fact, ruled out for three matches while Kelvin Flanagan of Cork City, Darren O'Brien of UCD and Graham Lawlor of Bohemians are among the other players who must serve out one-match bans.
