In pictures: St Patrick’s Day parades across the country

Thousands turned out in their green to celebrate our patron saint

St Patrick’s Day was celebrated in Dublin, with 500,000 people in attendance, and over 100,000 overseas visitors arriving in Ireland to celebrate the holiday.

The headline parade took place in Dublin, where the theme for this year’s event was adventures or “eachtraí” in Irish.

The parade featured seven large-scale pageants, six showpieces and 12 marching bands from across Ireland, North America and Austria. There were more than 4,000 participants.

Cork, Limerick, Galway and Belfast also had great turnouts, as our photographs show.
