The pandemic and the workplace

Sir, – In relation to the right of employers to ask their employees whether or not they have received Covid vaccinations, the Tánaiste was reported last week as having said that, "It's never been a requirement that employees or people have to tell their employers private medical information, and you'd want to have a really strong overwhelming public health case for that to change" (News, June 16th).

If a global pandemic caused by an extremely transmissible, virulent and rapidly mutating virus does not qualify as a “really strong overwhelming public health case” then I would like to enquire what might qualify as such?

Does the right to a safe working environment for the very significant majority of workers (and employers) who either have been vaccinated or who intend to get vaccinated count for nothing? What exactly is Government policy on this issue? – Yours, etc,
