Sir, – Your gushing, breathless article on oil off Irish waters (“Back in the black”,December 16th) is typical of our current mindset – profit before the future. Not a single syllable on the twin apocalyptic disasters of climate change or the plastic killing the ocean, both stemming from crude oil. Nothing on potential oil spills or rig explosions. Your paper is a gazette for investors cut off from the world that is dying around them. Our left-brain rigidity and Cartesian hollowness is driving us to extinction. – Yours, etc,
