Sir, – Dublin City Council has defied all logic in agreeing to remove a traffic lane in Fairview, one of the busiest commuting thoroughfares in Ireland. What is already a horrendously congested route into the city is going to be reduced to one lane. This will not only lead to gridlock in Fairview but along all the other alternative routes.
And what is the reason for this chaos? To save some scraggly old trees which Dublin City Council admits are struggling. Fairview Park is not short of beautiful trees, and those along the side of the road would soon be forgotten.
On the other hand, commuters fuming as they sit in gridlock each morning will not be so forgiving of the councillors who allowed this travesty to occur. – Yours, etc,
ROBBIE DUNNE,
Clontarf,
Dublin 3.
