Sir, – Letter writers who suggest that creationists consider the Earth to be only 4,000 years old appear to be one-third short of the mark.
The real figure is around 6,000 years ago.
This is linked to a synthetical chronology devised in the mid-1600s by the Church of Ireland archbishop of Armagh, James Ussher. Calibrating biblical events and persons, he determined that the Earth was created in 4,004 BC.
He even provided a date, October 23rd.
