Sir, – While walking last night through Dublin city, I was struck by the beautiful, warm and abundant glow of the white Christmas lights that adorned Grafton Street and its surrounds. Ten minutes later, I ambled onto O’Connell Street and Talbot Street. The experience was an indication of divide in every sense of the word. Sad, circular, multicoloured hoops were placed on the trees lining our national thoroughfare, O’Connell Street, while singular strings of coloured lights hung lonesomely in Talbot Street. As a proud Dubliner and Northsider, I thought this was a sad reflection of how the powers that be value and reflect Dublin. They say a picture paints a thousand words – well, it sure did. – Yours, etc,
SUSAN WHATELY,
Howth,
Co Dublin,
