Questions remain

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – I can’t remember the last time I saw a party so drained of energy that it needed a further period in Opposition to recharge its batteries. – Yours, etc,

JASON FITZHARRIS,

Swords,

Co Dublin.

Sir, – I note from the time line of events (News, October 15th) that Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald states she was “made aware in early August” that there was a complaint but was not told “the nature of it”.

Right, and I’m the King of Siam. What does she take us for? – Yours, etc,

NEVILLE SCARGILL,

Bray,

Co Wicklow.

Sir, – Who knew? Not Mary Lou. – Yours, etc,

ANTHONY HARRIS,

Terenure,

Dublin 6W.

Sir, – Let us hope that the electorate exercises “an abundance of caution” when it comes to the general election. – Yours, etc,

RITA O’BRIEN,

Lucan,

Co Dublin.

Sir, – The willingness of Sinn Féin to sacrifice its members on matters of principle would be more creditable if they’d tell us what those principles were. – Yours, etc,

ROBERT RYAN,

Ballinacurra,

Co Cork.

Sir, – Could someone explain what “an abundance of caution” means? Is it similar to “on mature recollection”? – Yours, etc,

THOMAS MORRIS GORMALLY,

Rathangan,

Co Kildare.

Sir, – I note that as of yesterday, the Sinn Féin website still lists Brian Stanley and Patricia Ryan as party representatives in Dáil Éireann.

An abundance of caution, or just another instance of poor channels of communication within the party? – Yours, etc,

ROSEMARY RAUGHTER,

Greystones,

Co Wicklow.
