Ring out the old and ring in the new

Beck and call

Letters to the Editor. Illustration: Paul Scott
The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – I’m at a loss to understand how a ringing phone evolved from being a complete nuisance (“Not my turn, I answered last time”) to the ubiquitous article it now is. Users vary from tots in prams to auld lads at bar counters, screenagers, young parents and golden oldies, all having the device at the ready like six-guns in Westerns.

This letter was not sent from my old Nokia. – Yours, etc,

ANNE MARIE KENNEDY,

Craughwell,
