Sir, – With local and European elections looming, what do we really know about any of the candidates?
Flyers thrown through letterboxes or posters on poles do not really tell the story behind the human beings seeking our votes.
What do we know of their business interests?
Are they landlords, are they benefiting from the influx of asylum seekers or international protection applicants?
Donald Trump is changing America in ways that will reverberate long after he is dead
Mark O'Connell: The mystery is not why we Irish have responded to Israel’s barbarism. It’s why others have not
Afghan student nurses crushed as Taliban blocks last hope of jobs
Emer McLysaght: The seven deadly things you should never buy a child at Christmas
Do they have vacant or disused properties which could be reused to house our homeless people?
Are they really concerned for those of us who need proper representation or are they just promoting their own agendas?
This is where our media and commentators who interview candidates need to go. They need to ask the hard questions.
Do candidates flyers and proclamations marry up with what is actually known about them or do we as voters just accept what we are being told? – Yours, etc,
CHRISTY GALLIGAN,
Letterkenny,
