Sir, – Ukraine has just suspended consular services for military-aged male citizens living abroad in an effort to force them to return home and submit to conscription (News, April 23rd).
Military-aged men living inside Ukraine have been prohibited from travelling outside the country since the beginning of the war.
I guess in a time of war it is accepted that men lose their status as individuals with rights and instead become a state resource, hemmed in and corralled forward to war by “duties to the homeland”. – Yours, etc,
