Roadside grass margins

Sir, – On a recent journey from Sligo to Kilgarvan in north Tipperary I was struck by the effects of the recent recommendation not to mow on the roadside grass margin.

The visibility at many intersections was markedly affected in a negative and dangerous way. Secondly, I observed that the space for pedestrians on narrow country roads appeared significantly constricted by the overgrowth.

This adds to the risk of injury or death that is already present when walking on these roads.

The promotion of biodiversity is indeed laudable but I wonder if it should be at the expense of safety on our roads. – Is mise,
