Baby girl less than a month old found in box in English town

Police say girl found in Ibsen Walk, Corby, appears in good health and is in hospital

A baby girl thought to be less than a month old has been found in a cardboard box left outside a house in Northamptonshire, England.

The infant, wrapped in a blue blanket and wearing just a nappy, was discovered at about 9am by a member of the public who heard a noise coming from the box.

Police said the child, found in Ibsen Walk, Corby, appears to be in good health and is being cared for at Kettering General Hospital.

Police are concerned for the mother’s wellbeing.

Urgent appeal

A statement from Northamptonshire Police said: “We are issuing an urgent appeal for witnesses after a baby was found abandoned outside a house in Corby at 9am today.

“A member of the public found the baby after hearing a noise coming from a box which had been left outside a house in Ibsen Walk.”

Separately, the police said the baby girl has dark hair, dark eyes “and is believed to be between one and four weeks old”.

“Officers urgently need to trace the baby’s mother and are concerned for her welfare. They are appealing for her or anybody with information to contact Northamptonshire Police”.
