On Friday night a series of terrorist attacks took place in six locations around Paris, killing more than 128 people and injuring 200. The attacks have been claimed by Islamic State.
As events were unfolding twitter users around Paris portrayed what was taking place. Using the social media tool, Paris residents communicated as to what areas of Paris to avoid and hashtags like #PorteOuvert helped Parisians to find shelter and safety. Facebook released a 'safety check' feature to mark people as safe.
As the tragic enormity of the attacks became clear the hashtag #ParisAttacks and #PrayforParis were used to convey messages of condolence and solidarity from around the globe. Below is a snapshot of the last 24 hours of reaction on social media.
