At least 14 people were killed when a commuter train crashed into a minibus at a rail crossing in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta. A further 10 people were said to have been seriously injured in the incident.

The bus repotedly drove through warning signals and crossed the rail tracks before being rammed by the train in western Jakarta, said Tambora area police chief Wirdhanto.

The bus was seen lying on the tracks after it was dragged by the train up to a nearby platform, about 300 yards from the collision site.

Wirdhanto said that 13 people in the minibus were killed instantly and another died in a hospital.

He said none of passengers travelling in the train’s eight cars were hurt, and all rail signals were working at the time of the crash.

The train was headed to Jakarta’s neighbouring town of Bogor with about 400 passengers.
