A YOUNG woman who was killed in her Dublin home at the weekend had just moved back into the house, having been advised by by gardaí it was safe to do so, friends have alleged.
Anna Finnegan (26), was stabbed in her home in Allendale Glen, Ongar, west Dublin on Friday night, and her brother Karl was also attacked. Her two young children were asleep upstairs during the attack.
She had been in a safe house in Bray, Co Wicklow with her children since August, and had secured a barring order against her 31-year-old former partner last week.
Friends say she had been advised by gardaí last week it was safe for her to return to her home.
A Garda spokesman would not comment on the claim.
It is understood Ms Finnegan had returned to the house in west Dublin but had asked her brother Karl to stay with her and the children, Lulja (2) and Billy (8 months).
She was in the house with him when her former partner gained entry and allegedly stabbed Ms Finnegan with a knife several times.
When Mr Finnegan tried to intervene he too was stabbed.
After the attack her former partner made a 999 call and then brought Ms Finnegan to the nearby Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. He dropped her at the door of the emergency department before driving away.
She was pronounced dead at about 10.30pm. Her former partner was arrested on Saturday evening. Gardaí were last night continuing to question him in connection with her death.
