A 35-year-old woman was killed yesterday and four children injured in a collision between a car and a truck near Dungarvan, Co Waterford.

A seven-year-old girl was in a critical condition last night in Waterford Regional Hospital.

The accident happened at 2.40 p.m. on the Cushcan-Coolnasmear road, about two miles from Dungarvan. The children were not all from the same family. Gardai declined to give further details, however, until relatives had been informed. The woman, who is understood to have been from the area, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was not seriously injured.

A 20-year-old Kerry man was killed when two cars collided at 7.10 a.m. yesterday at Carrigaphooca, near Macroom, Co Cork. He was Mr Owen Sweeney from Lahard, Beaufort.

Meanwhile a man killed in another collision at Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, at 11 p.m. on Sunday has been named as Mr Hugh Kerr, of Ballylough, Ferns, Co Wexford. Three other people were injured in the accident.
