Vodafone has today issued an apology for an accounting error which resulted in several thousand customers being incorrectly charged last week.

The mobile operator said that due to a processing error it undertook duplicate collections for a number of business and personal customers who pay their bills via direct debit using credit cards.

Vodafone said the error was quickly spotted and immediately rectified with all additional charges to customer's credit cards being refunded within days.

The operator said it had also promised to refund any additional charges customesr may have incurred as a result of the error.

"We have contacted all affected customers to advise of this issue and apologise to them," the company said in a statement.

"This was an isolated incident that affected several thousand customers and we are taking the necessary steps to ensure this does not happen again," it added.
