American Power Conversions (APC) today announced plans to establish a research and development centre at its European headquarters in Galway.
The US communications software company already employs 800 at three locations in Mayo, Galway and Dublin.
The company is understood to be considering a €1 million investment in the new centre, which is also receiving backing from the IDA.
The Tánaiste, Ms Mary Harney, welcomed the news, saying the investment would "create highly skilled jobs in Ireland".
