Gardaí in Coolock have begun a murder investigation into the fatal stabbing of a man (17) outside a leisure complex on the Malahide Road on Saturday night.

The man was named as Mr Alan Higgins from the Danahies in Donaghmede. He was stabbed in the chest and died from his injuries during the night at Beaumount hospital.

Gardaí in Kilmainham also started a murder investigation following last night's fatal stabbing of Mr Joseph Sutcliffe (32) from Curlew Road, Drimnagh.

He was stabbed in the stomach and was found by a Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance at Fatima Mansions. He was taken to St James's Hospital where he died a short time later.

In a separate case, a man has been arrested and detained at Kilmainham Garda Station following the stabbing of a man in an apartment in James's Court, Echlin Street, Dublin, on Saturday.

The victim was stabbed in the chest and is being treated in St James's Hospital, where he is described as "stable".
