Two local men have been charged today over the sexual assault of an Irish and English woman on the Thai resort island of Koh Samui.
Thai police confirmed to ireland.comtwo men brought in for questioning about the alleged assault on the 23-year-old tourists have now been charged.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with rape, and the other man (19) has been charged with attempted rape.
The alleged attack occurred as the women were walking home along the beach at about 4 a.m. local time last Sunday evening.
It is understood they were attacked from behind and dragged into undergrowth. The attackers fled when disturbed by a passer-by.
One of the young women was hospitalised after the attack but later released.
Under Thai law both men could face sentences of between two to five years if found guilty.
