TWO PEOPLE appeared in court yesterday charged in the relation to the seizure of more than €6,000 worth of cigarettes at Dublin airport.
Officers arrested an 18-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both Lithuanian nationals, after they arrived on a flight from Riga, Latvia, on Thursday.
More than 16,000 cigarettes were discovered following a baggage search.
The cigarettes are valued at about €6,520 by Revenue Customs officials and could represent a loss of revenue of €5,358.
The woman appeared before Blanchardstown District Court and was remanded on €300 bail, while the man appeared in the Bridewell and was remanded on €1,000 bail.
Both were charged with being concerned in the evasion of a duty of excise on excisable products.
They are due to appear again at Dublin District Court on August 4th.
Separately, a quantity of equine and bovine anti-flu vaccines were seized on Tuesday when Customs officers searched baggage belonging to a 72-year-old American national.
The products are banned from importation except under licence.
