There are serious traffic delays on the M50 today after a crash involving a truck.

The M50 northbound was earlier blocked and then reduced to one lane following the crash this morning just before Finglas junction.

The northbound lanes opened shortly before 2pm after vehicles involved in the crash were removed.

There were serious tailbacks on the M50, M1, and ancillary roads, however. The AA said the worst tailback extended 13km to the Ballymount junction. It has advised drivers to avoid the M50 or to exit the motorway if they are on it.

Gardaí are diverting traffic off the M50 at the Red Cow, and earlier there was no access to the M50 from the N3 Navan road. Access has been restored onto the M50 from the N4 Lucan road, although access off the M50 northbound onto the city-bound N4 will not be restored at 4pm.

The ban on five-axle HGVs entering Dublin city centre was lifted for some two hours in an attempt to ease congestion on the M50 and other approach roads. It was reinstated by 2pm.

The AA added that southbound traffic on the M50 was extremely slow from the M1/M50 roundabout to the Finglas junction, as onlookers were causing delays.
