THREE PEOPLE were killed in Co Down yesterday when their car and another vehicle collided on a notorious stretch of road just outside the small town of Comber.

The two men and a woman died when their silver Mitsubishi and a BMW collided head-on on Killinchy Road shortly after midnight.

The Mitsubishi car was split in two by the force of the impact. The male driver of the BMW was uninjured in the crash.

One of victims was last night named by the PSNI as John Pirie (31) from Killyleagh, Co Down. The other two victims’ names were being withheld at the request of the families, a PSNI spokeswoman said. The collision was the third fatal crash in the area in just over a month.
