ELEVEN PEOPLE were taken to hospital following three crashes involving buses in Dublin yesterday morning.

Four people were brought to hospital after a bus and a van collided in Rush, north Co Dublin. Three passengers and a Dublin Bus driver were injured in the crash at 6.30am on the town’s main street. Dublin Bus said 10 passengers were on board the 33 bus travelling to Skerries.

Following the incident, a diversion was set up through Corr’s Lane in Rush. At 7.45am, there was a collision between a car and a 33x bus on the lane, Dublin Bus said. Seventy-one passengers were on board, and two bus passengers and the two occupants of a Golf GTi car were taken to hospital.

Extra 33x bus services were put on to take commuters into the city centre after the collapse of a bridge on the Dublin-Belfast rail line near Malahide last month.

Shortly before 10am, a 16 bus, travelling to Ballinteer, collided with a car on Camden Street. Three people in the car were taken to hospital. No one in the three incidents is believed to have suffered serious injuries.

Dublin Bus and the Garda are investigating the incidents. Dublin Bus said it had a strong safety record that compared favourably with other operators.

Elsewhere, investigations are continuing into a collision between a bus and Luas tram in the city centre last week. More than 20 people were injured in the crash last Wednesday.

A woman remains in a stable condition in Beaumont Hospital, while another patient is stable in the Mater. At St James’s, one person remains in care, while a second has been discharged. Gardaí are to interview hundreds of witnesses over the O’Connell Street-Abbey Street junction crash.
