THE REPORT of “An Bord Snip Nua”, as it is popularly known, ought to be published as soon as the Government has finished considering the document, Chief Whip Pat Carey TD said last night.
The report from the officially-titled Special Group on Public Service Numbers and Expenditure Programmes was delivered to Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan last Wednesday.
Mr Carey told The Irish Times: “Once the Government has completed consideration of it, the report should be published and put out there as quickly as possible.”
A Government spokesman said the report would “possibly” go to Cabinet at its next meeting on Wednesday.
The Government would decide if and when to publish the report.
No official comment was available yesterday on speculation that the group, chaired by UCD economist Colm McCarthy, had included among its many recommendations the dismantling of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, currently headed by Minister Éamon Ó Cuív.
Mr Lenihan refused to comment last night on any matter relating to the report.
