The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, will attend the funeral tomorrow of one of the two victims of Tuesday's crash near Kinnegad on the Dublin-Galway Road.

Ms Gobnait O'Connell (38), a special adviser to the Minister for Health and Children, died when an oncoming coach collided with the car she was driving. The coach had previously clipped the side of another vehicle, the driver of which also died. He was named yesterday as Mr Patrick McCarroll (48), from Blackrock, Co Dublin.

Ms O'Connell's remains will be removed from her home in Millstreet, Co Cork, at 8 p.m. tonight and brought to the Church of the Presentation of Mary, Derrinagree, Co Cork. Requiem Mass will take place at 1 p.m. tomorrow with burial afterwards at St Mary's Cemetery, Millstreet.

Mr McCarroll, an architect, was married with one child. He lived on the outskirts of Blackrock village. His remains will be brought to St John the Baptist Church in Blackrock tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. The funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning with burial afterwards in Shanganagh Cemetery.

Mr Ahern had been due to launch Fianna Fail's new schools' programme, "Politics in Progress", in a girls' school in Dublin tomorrow. The event has been postponed as a mark of respect for the dead.

Meanwhile, 12 people remained in James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown last night. A total of 29 casualties were brought to the hospital from the scene of the accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Eight women and four men, aged between 20 and 70, are being kept in hospital for observation.
