A suspicious envelope has been removed from Trinity College, Dublin by the Army this afternoon, while security services are in attendance at UCD were a suspect envelope has also been identified.
The envelope at Trinity was found in the Secretary’s office earlier this afternoon.
There are still six staff inside the building but preparations are being made to allow them to leave.
The Dublin fire brigade are setting up a decontamination spraying system through which the six people will have to pass as they exit the building.
Security staff were alerted immediately upon the discovery of the envelope earlier today.
When they arrived at the building they found the Gardaí and fire brigade had also arrived on the scene. The Army arrived shortly after that.
The precaution of the people remaining inside the building was taken on advise from the Gardaí and fire brigade.
In another apparent suspicious-package scare, four units of the fire brigade, four ambulances and an Army unit in attendance at the Michael Tierney Administration Building on UCD’s Belfield campus.
The building has been cordoned off after the finding of what a garda on the scene has described as a suspicious package containing white powder.
A decontamination unit is being set up outside the building.
