Thousands of young pop fans face disappointment this morning at the news that tomorrow night's concert by the Australian chanteuse Kylie Minogue has been cancelled.
A spokesman for the former soap star said the adverse weather had meant the lavish stage sets and sound equipment could not be transported from Britain to Dublin.
The concert was due to take place at the RDS showground, and ticket-holders are advised to seek a refund from the point of purchase.
Tomorrow night's was to be the opening date in a 17-date tour, which will now begin in Glasgow on Saturday.
The spokesman continued: "People have looked into every means of getting to Dublin, but it's just been impossible because airports are closed and ferries have been cancelled."
The spokesman said the tour. for which Ms Minogue was going through last-minute rehearsals today, was going to be "spectacular".
"It will be completely over the top with theatrical lighting and costume changes," he added.
Ms Minogue (32) acted as an 11-year-old in The Sullivans. She went on to play Charlene in the hugely successful Neighours, first achieved chart success in 1987 with a cover of the 1962 Little Eva hit, The Loco-Motion. She went on to work with the renowned pop-machine, Stock, Aiken and Waterman.
Following a later lull in her career, she made a comeback last year which reached its most opulent fruition so far at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics, when she was centre-stage singing On a Night Like This.
She topped the charts again last year with her single Spinning Around This from the album Light Years.
