LIMERICK HIP-HOP act the Rubberbandits say they are not disappointed at the failure of their internet hit Horse Outsideto reach Christmas number one.

They are planning some “hibernation” in the new year, following a “lot of media madness” over the past few weeks.

Their Horse Outside, which attracted more than three million views on YouTube, failed to beat X-Factor winner Matt Cardle's When We Collidein the race to top the Irish charts. It did win top position in the download charts.

"We are grand about it," Blindboy Boatclub told The Irish Timesyesterday. "We never intended to go anywhere near the charts. It was just the public demanded it. The thing is we had no record label so we just physically couldn't print enough CDs to sell to beat that Matt fella in the physical CD sales charts."

“I’m sure Matt is very nice fella. To be honest I haven’t even heard the song. He doesn’t look like the kind of lad who could jockey a horse though.”

Asked about new year plans, he said there were gig commitments to fill and then he and fellow Rubberbandit, Mr Chrome, would be hoping to get away from the “media frenzy. We need to hibernate for a while. We haven’t been able to create during all that frenzy. It all got a bit Jedward.”
