A FUNDRAISING effort by a Galway-based radio station - in which members of the public will be driven to work on a "naked bus" - has received 40-50 applications on its first day.
"We had a huge response on day one, both by text and on our website," said Alan Swan, programme director of i102-104 radio station.
The station is inviting its listeners to participate in the "Naked Bus Challenge", whereby they are collected from their homes and driven to work naked. From next Monday until Friday August 29th, the bus will deliver one person per day to their place of work. Volunteers will be fully clothed getting on and off the bus and will travel alone, except for the driver and a "marketing person" who will ensure the person is comfortable but not clothed on the journey.
Volunteers must apply on www.i102104.ie, stating their reasons for wanting to participate, and nominating a registered charity for which they would like to raise money.
"At the moment, female applicants outnumber males by about three to two. But we won't be choosing on the basis of gender. It will be more down to the reasons they give for participating and the charities they select. Applicants so far have chosen the Marie Keating Foundation, Aware and Bethany House among others."
