Belfast-based Andor Technology sales rose by more than a third during the year ended September 30th, the company reported today.

Andor, which manufactures high-performance scientific digital cameras, saw operating profit rise by 63 per cent to £3.4m, compared to £2.1 million a year earlier.

Pre-tax profit increased 67 per cent to £3.5 million from £2.1 million while turnover rose 34 per cent over the 12 month-period to £33.1 million, compared to £24.7 million.

Earnings per share increased 79.4 per cent to 11.57 pence as against 6.45 pence a year earlier.

The company, which is celebrating its 20th year in business during 2009, said cash generation was up 411 per cent to £5.8 million. At the end of the 12-month period under review Andor had net funds of £7.9 million.

The firm said there had been 30 per cent year-on-year growth in opening order book for fiscal 2010.

"Andor has charted a path through the uncertainty of the past 12 months and delivered a strong set of results," said chief executive Conor Walsh.

"As we look forward to 2010 we remain cautious about the economic outlook, the exposure we have as a global business to currency volatility, and the ever-increasing competition for business. But we are also optimistic, buoyed by the strength of our brand and our business, the technology we offer and will deliver over the coming year, and most of all the skill and diligence of our staff," he added.

Andor which began as a spin-out venture from Queen's University in Belfast, was set up in 1989 and now employs over 200 peopel in 15 offices worldwide. The copany was admitted to the AIM at the end of 2004.
