A Co Mayo post office closed temporarily this morning following after a suspect package was discovered to contain a white powder-like substance.

The package was found at the Ballyhaunis Post office at 8.20 a.m. this morning and the building was closed as a precautionary measure in case the substance was anthrax.

Tests later revealled that the package contained food produce and the post office reopened for business this afternoon.
