A woman in her 70s has died following a crash involving three vehicles in Co Limerick.

The woman was a passenger in one of the cars which collided on the N21 between Newcastle West and Rathkeale at about 6.30pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

All three drivers were taken to University Hospital Limerick with injuries described as minor.

The road at the scene of the crash was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and was expected to remain closed overnight.
