Internal party polls suggest Sinn Féin could secure three out of five seats in constituency

Sinn Féin is to consider a three candidate strategy in Co Donegal.

The party’s Ard Comhairle will meet this weekend to discuss adding another candidate in the constituency as proposed by the branch in Donegal.

Pearse Doherty and Padraig MacLochlainn have both been selected to run.

The party will meet on Saturday to discuss adding a third candidate.

It is understood internal party polls suggest Sinn Féin could secure three seats in the five-seat constituency.

Councillor Gary Doherty has indicated he will put his name forward for selection.

If agreed by the Ard Comhairle, a selection convention would be held next week.
