Everything possible is being done to ensure the schools affected by the collapse of the British property company Carillion will be completed in as timely a manner as possible, Minister for Education Richard Bruton has said.

He told the Dáil on Tuesday the buildings, five schools and a further education college, were about 90 per cent completed. Two were almost ready for occupation.

Replying to a number of TDs, Mr Bruton said he had met officials from the National Development Finance Agency to discuss the matter.

“I wish to acknowledge the very understandable concern of the school communities and all connected with the projects in respect of the current lack of certainty around dates for completion of the schools,’’ he said.
