MacGill Summer School to address question of Irish republicanism

The MacGill Summer School continues today in Donegal.

Speakers on the theme ’Irish republicanism – rhetoric or reality?’ include historians Prof Diarmuid Ferriter, Prof Gearoid O Tuathaigh and Prof Dermot Keogh.

Dr Elaine Sisson, author of Pearse’s Patriots: St Endas and the Cult of Boyhood and politics lecturer and author Dr Margaret O’Callaghan will also address the event in Glenties.

Poet, novelist and broadcaster Theo Dorgan will address one of this afternoon’s sessions, entitled The Ambiguous Republic.

Green Party leader and former energy minister Eamon Ryan will also address the event this evening on the theme of building a decentralised, participatory and accountable republic. Irish Times assistant editor Fintan O'Toole will also address that session.
