Former journalist John V ‘Danno’ Halloran dies aged 85

Halloran was a news and duty editor at RTÉ and a founding editor of Oireachtas TV

Former RTÉ journalist John V "Danno" Halloran has died at the age of 85 following a short illness.

Mr Halloran was a news and duty editor at RTÉ and a founding editor of its Oireachtas TV broadcasting unit.

He was the father of RTÉ correspondent Cathy Halloran and brother of David Halloran, former deputy group editor of Independent News & Media.

He is also survived by his daughter Lisa, sons John and Kevin and sisters Bernie and Sr Marie Celine.

His remains will be removed to the Church of Christ the King, Salthill, Galway, on Thursday evening.

Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning and burial will take place at Bohernabreena Cemetery on Saturday morning.
